1) I am not flexible, nor very physically in shape. Can I practice Wushu?
Regardless of your physical fitness level, our Wushu training will be modeled after your comfort level to ensure that you progress. If you are in good shape, we will push your physical boundaries to get you into great shape. Flexibility is developed during your training.
2) How is Wushu different from other martial arts ?
Wushu has its roots deep in Chinese culture and has been credited as one of the main styles that led to the birth of many other great martial arts styles, including Karate and Tae Kwon Do. The vast heritage and culture of Wushu develops the mind, body and spirit of the practitioner. Whether it's practicing Taiji to improve "qi" and health, or practicing Monkey Style for a performance, Wushu always improves the well-being of individuals. Summit Wushu Academy offers Wushu as a safe, non-contact martial arts - using the movements to enrich the body and mind in a non-violent manner.
3) Is there a belt system?
Wushu practitioners normally do not follow a ranking system, however, Summit Wushu Academy has a belt curriculum to keep students guided on a consistent path of progression. As great of an achievement it is to reach Black Belt, it should always be a reminder that the study of Wushu, and martial arts in general, is a lifelong & endless journey. Regardless of what belt a practitioner is, he or she should always be willing to empty their minds in order to attain more knowledge.
